Nintendo is a Japanese video game hardware and software company founded in 1889. It has produced some of the world's biggest-selling home and portable game consoles including the DS, Wii, and Switch. Nintendo is also the creator of many of the world's most popular video game series including Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Animal Crossing.
Company history
Nintendo was founded as a playing card manufacturer and was involved in numerous other business areas before it moved into video games. The company experimented with a taxi company named Daiya, a love hotel chain, a TV network, a food company and several other ventures, all of which failed.
Cultural impact
The first video game console ever played in space was made by Nintendo. Aleksandr Serebrov played Tetris on a Game Boy.
